WOODBURY – Cannon County Director of Schools William F. Curtis in conjunction with Woodbury Grammar School Principal Ms. Emily Hancock has named Mr. Steven Smith as Assistant Principal of Woodbury Grammar School in Woodbury, Tennessee. The position became available upon the resignation of Mr. Josh Thaxton, who served as Assistant Principal at Woodbury Grammar School for the past two years and was selected last month as the Technology Director for Warren County Schools.   

Mr. Smith has lived in Cannon County his entire life, attended West Side Elementary School, and graduated from Cannon County High School in 1999.  After graduating high school, Steven attended Motlow State Community College for two years, then transferred to Freed Hardeman University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Biblical Studies.  In 2011, he received his teaching certification for 4th – 8th Middle School from Tennessee Tech University.  In 2011, he began his teaching career at Woodbury Grammar and has taught for the past 10 years. He is currently working on a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Austin Peay State University through the Tennessee Aspiring Assistant Principals Network program through the Tennessee Department of Education. Steven and his wife, Ana, reside in the Woodbury community with their two children, Nora and Levi. Ana is a 2nd Grade Teacher at East Side Elementary School in Woodbury, Tennessee.

Upon being named, Mr. Smith stated, “I’m very excited to begin the next phase of my career in education. I love all the students, faculty, and staff of Woodbury Grammar School, and I look forward to serving them in this new position.”

Mr. Smith will be meeting with WGS Principal Ms. Emily Hancock and WGS faculty and staff at a date to be determined after July 1st, 2020 to begin this new assignment.  Cannon County Schools is very glad to announce this hire and are excited about the future at Woodbury Grammar School.
