Cannon County High School Basketball Games CONTINUE to be Held Under TSSAA COVID-19 Guidelines – Elementary School Games Also Held Under COVID-19 Local Guidelines UPDATE

WOODBURY – Cannon County High School Basketball Games are being held under the current guidelines from the TSSAA (Tennessee Secondary Schools Athletic Association).

On February 1st, 2021, the TSSAA changed the guidelines to allow Cheerleaders and/or Dance Teams to participate in gymnasiums during Basketball Games. ALL other guidelines are still in place with limited capacity of fans.

With the Governor’s recent announcement, the restrictions limiting cheerleaders from attending contests was lifted on Monday, February 1. The TSSAA rules regarding masks, temperature checks, social distancing and COVID-19 recommended venue capacities will remain in effect.

Cannon County High School and ALL Cannon County Elementary Schools will limit fan attendance to a number that will allow adequate social distancing (e.g., 1/4 to 1/3 of typical seating capacity, depending on the characteristics of the particular venue). Member schools must facilitate compliance with any applicable state or local order limiting gathering sizes for participation in public events. In consultation with local health providers, member schools in areas experiencing high virus transmission should consider further limitations on attendance (e.g., family members only, or no spectators). Limit informal gathering in areas where social distancing cannot be maintained.

All fans will be expected to wear a mask or face covering and have their temperature checked prior to entry into the facility. It is preferable for fans to wear their masks or face covering for the duration of the event. Masks are expected to be worn whenever spectators are moving among other spectators, such as walking to the concession stand or restroom.

Spectators will be required to social distance and sit as a family unit in designated seating areas. Facial coverings are required and temperature checks are also required upon entry. Concession Stand items will be limited to mostly pre-packaged items only, and spectators will maintain social distancing at all times.

TSSAA Guidelines can be found on the TSSAA website (opens in a new window).

As the High School and Elementary Basketball seasons conclude, if the COVID-19 Active Case Count in Cannon County experiences high virus transmission, further limitations on attendance (e.g., family members only, or no spectators) could occur at future games. This determination will be made by Cannon County Schools Officials in consultation with the local office of the Tennessee Department of Health.
